BIN 389 CABERNET SHIRAZ 2017-Penfolds
This sits in the typical, just cabernet-dominant style (54%) and marries cassis, blueberries, leaves and cedary-dominant aromas with more substantial blackberries and dark cherries, as well as redder tones at the finish. The regional sourcing here is cleverly played and delivers a fleshy, soft and smooth wine in 2017. Long, vanilla-laced after-trail. Drink over the next fifteen years. A stallion in the cellar!

BIN 28 KALIMNA SHIRAZ 2017-Penfolds
This has moved to position itself firmly as a wine that trades on the strengths of Barossa shiraz, in an all-round way, while also incorporating McLaren Vale and Padthaway sourcing. Deep blackberries and redder fruit with a creamy, vanillin-laced nose and some cedar and tarry notes. The palate has a smooth build of fleshy fruit and silky, refined and polished tannin. Drink now or wait six years.

Aromas of nectarines, papaya, guava, white and yellow peaches and a whiff of lemon, all surrounded by smoothly delivered wood and winemaker influence. The palate is taut and crunchy with pithy grapefruit and cucumber crunch, then a wave of richer honeysuckle and light biscuity notes. Adelaide Hills, Tasmania and Tumbarumba fruit sourcing. BIN 150 MARANANGA SHIRAZ 2016-Penfolds
Sourced from the powerful Western Barossa and fueled by an early and warm vintage. The nose is all blackberries and tar, together with some iron and sanguine aromas and plenty of woody spices, black tea, raisins and an earthy, coal-smoke edge. There's a bold core of very ripe, dense and deep-set black fruit on the palate with dark plums, blackberry essence and a wealth of clove and cardamom spices. The tannins wrap long and super deep. The density here seems effortless. This has at least a decade of life ahead of it. Drink now or hold.
